What is Biometrics Security

Every person has intrinsic physical and behavior traits. When we take a grouping of these features to identify the person to allow him or her to get access to a prohibited sector it is broadly known as biometrics security system. It is actually derived from 2 Greek words, Bios meaning life and Metron meaning measure.

In info technology sectors, biometric security is employed more frequently as an identity access management system. This technology is also used to spot individuals within a group.

The biometric systems are split into two strategies. The techniques are behavioral and physiological. Your voice pitch, typing rhythm, voice recognition, and hand movement are examples of behavior methods. DNA, iris recognition, face recognition, fingerprints, smell, palm and hand geometry authentication etc are examples of physical techniques. Both of these methods are used in conjunction as per requirement to prepare an acceptable biometric system as required.

Parameters like universality, uniqueness, permanence, collectability, performance, acceptability and circumvention are used as human traits for the biometric security system. These parameters are employed in proportion to formulate the biometric system to be enforced.

The biometric system works by corroboration and identification of the individual. The 1st time an individual uses the biometric security system is thought of as enrolment. During the enrolment the biometric samples of the person is stored in the database. During successive uses the biometric info is uncovered and determined with the data that was there in the enrolment. Then the person is identified and allowed access to the secured area. Storage and retrieval information in biometric system is very crucial for it to function with perfection. The sensor is the interface between real life and the biometric system. This sensor captures and takes all of the required data. Then the unnecessary inputs are removed to improve the content of the mandatory input. Then process extracts the features required for security corroboration. Then a template with the features extracted from the source is made. The got template is then paired with the current template already there for the person during enrolment. If the data matches then the person is given access to the limited area which can be anything.

For the performance measurement for biometric systems the analytical tools used are false match rate or false accept rate, fake non-match rate or false reject rate, receiver operating characteristics, equal error rate or crossover error rate, failure to enroll rate, failure to capture rate and template capacity. If we increase the sensitivity of the biometric device then the fake accept rate decreases but the fake reject rate rises. So, we need to balance both.

Discrimination and hacking of the information of the biometric database are the major risks that need to be taken care of. The info in the database should be protected.

Biometric security can be dangerous for someone who own the access of the system and the secured items in it. For getting access to the secured area or items irreversible damage to the owner has been made in many occasions. There are recorded incidents of fingers of the owners getting chopped by the miscreants to use for fingerprint access to the secured items.

This is unquestionably the innovation security feature that is's slowly going to be taking over the world.
